I'm interested in your audio CD. But going through the hassle of figuring out how to pay you is just not worth my time. International wire fund transfer- cumm on- the last time I tried that the bank wanted a $25 fee just to consider it. Either take a personal check on a US bank for US funds and you figure out how to cash it or set up a visa account and take my visa number. Otherwise you can forget about the US market. Sorry to be so blunt, but that's the way it is. Bill

First heard about your Audio-CD on a broadcast of the "As It Happens" show on PBS. I'm interested because, at the age of 61, I think I'm beginning to have some hearing difficulties (my wife thinks so too) and welcome some means of objective testing. I tracked you down by calling the local PBS station where I heard the show. They gave me a phone # for the "As It Happens" producer in Totonto (Brooke Forbes). Her information was limited to a phone number (which was incorrect), your e-mail address (which fortunately was OK), and no address. Thanks for your prompt answer to my e-mail. I've just completed placing my order from your web page. You might wish to contact Ms. Forbes and give her your full address & correct phone number in the event she receives any more inquiries via the route I took. Regards; Bob Maes, Glen Ellen, CA, USA.

I like what you have done here. I think you need to add some references to allow people to read more about this, if they want to. I agree that the public needs to be more aware of the harmful effects of loud sound.

I am interested in your CD ROM re: audiometric testing, though this should never take the place of a formal audiological exam by a licensed audiologist. But it would be very handy for audiological screenings that many speech pathologists are often tasked to do. I am also very interested in your Function Generator software; are you working on porting this to a Windows platform anytime soon? Also, could you send information regarding ordering this software? Thanks very much. Peter Guiod, Mass. Inst. of Technology

Well presented info. None of which may be new but it is ignored by most authorities who obviously do not understand the implications, or have vested interests to cause them to ignore it! Have you any info or comment on digital hearing aids and their efficacy compared to the analogs on the market? Oticon, Widex an maybe Siemens seem to have them. Would be grateful to hear from you as someone who truly understands sound and hearing.

Thank you for the comparison on the Radio Shack SPL meter. I am using it as a basic SPL meter for a functional test on a product we build for a third party. To know that it is well within the parameters required for our test is very reassuring. I look forward to use of your website and potentially your products as I learn more about them. Thanks again...

I am fascinated with your work on the Digital Speech Aid. I am a stutterer and have tried many things but none with great success. I must have missed in your DSA Web information how a stutterer could find out the price and availability of the DSA (or better yet, any clinical trials of smaller future versions of DSA). Any information would be greatly appreciated. Sincerely, Joe Prince joe3of5@aol.com .

Karl Keefer (dogfight@ix.netcom.com):
My experience with the Radio Shack digital SPL meter were similar to yours. I am a metrology technician with the USAF, and had access to General Radio and B&K audio calibration devices while stationed east of Los Angeles. I found the meter to be accurate to well within the specification, mostly internal display noise of +/- 1 least significant digit @114dB. This is the audio bargain I recommend to any one with a recording studio and undamaged ears.

I'm an audiologist and came across your CD today. I thought this was a great, self test, screening tool. Sort of the 90's version of the phone screening. I hope this CD is being used as an indicator of a potential hearing loss and not as a diagnostic tool. Your web site was incorrect on your brouchure that's enclosed in the CD case.

I enjoyed your scientific tests between the B&K and Radio Shack SPL meters. I am a recording student at Fredonia State and have been reluctant to purchase the RS model, fearing it may be grossly inaccurate. However, after seeing your results, I may have one by weeks end! Hi - I'm an audiologist with a private practice (Hearing Enhancement Center) in Southern California. I have long maintained that temporal resolution of the auditory system is something we (audiologists) should be evaluating. Digital technology is providing the means for assessing and, hopefully, rectifying temporal resolution impairment in the human auditory system. I am most interested in your software based audiometer with its extended testing capabilities (temporal resolution, etc..). Bravo for your contribution!

I HAVE BEEN A NIGHTCLUB DJ FOR 16 YEARS AND IVE STARTED TO LOSE ABOUT 15 PERCENT OF MY HEARING. I PURCHASED YOUR SOUND METER TO KEEP THE LEVEL IN THE ROOM TO NO MORE THAN 90 DECIBALS. IT IS A FANTASTIC PIECE OF EQUIPMENT! EVERY NIGHTCLUB SHOULD PURCHASE ONE.

Your comments on the effect of prolonged noise exposure are most welcome. Unfortunately hearing loss is not visible; if it were we would all be shocked at the extent of this modern day disability. Public awareness of the causes of deafness are key to our keeping a quality of life! The very best of luck with your CD.

Thanks for the valuable information about the harmful effects of loud noise. The urban soundscape is becoming unbearable. Research has shown that children raised in noisy environments are slower learning to talk and to read. We need to make more people aware of the issue. Keep up the good work!

Brian Frost (bmf702@nwu.edu):
I'm just wondering if anyone there has any helpful hints pertaining to a project I am working on. A couple of months ago I was doing some recordings with a B&K 5000 onto a SGI which was sampling at almost 200k. I found that the monitor was making a 70-90 dB whine at 37kHz. I thought that was interesting. So, I plan to take some recording equiptment with me to the field and record some more stuff. The B&K (I'm told) can record upwards of 100kHz. The problem is that all the dat's we have access to can record only as high as 48k/samples which will only allow for 24kHz signals to be recorded. I've heard pioneer makes a dat that samples at 96k. I just don't want to lug the SGI around. The research is going to be used to determine whether further study on the effects of ultra-sonic exposure on hearing (such as in the case of people using SGI monitors which might be making loud noises which we jsut can't hear) and the recordings will be used for a musical composition once we have pitch shifted them. Any info you think is pertainant will be appreciated. Brian Frost (847)328-0695 bmf702@nwu.edu Northwestern University

I never went to school (but I want to) to get a piece of paper that says I know what I am doing. But you left out a third party. Those of us who are responsable and who are willing to learn from those people who are responsable, and use that information which that piece of paper says that they know. In my humble opinion it is not just the education that make a difference, but the responsibility of the person in dealing with the power that we are given
